Praise….always a slightly contentious one this.

We definitely subscribe to the old adage “Self-praise is no recommendation.”

Equally, some third party testimonials can be taken with a large pinch of salt - London’s theatreland is renowned for billboards which have applied a selective interpretation of critical reviews: “I was glued to my seat” – Evening Standard. Whereas the critic actually wrote: “I was glued to my seat otherwise I would have walked out after the First Act!”

The French philosopher and writer Voltaire offers his brilliant take on praise: “He was a great patriot, a humanitarian, a loyal friend – provided, of course, that he really is dead.”
